Motion of CO Molecules in Solid C60 Probed by Solid-State NMR

چکیده
Polycrystalline C60 has been intercalated with 99 atom % 13C-enriched CO gas by using highpressure, high-temperature synthesis. The ratio of 13CO to C60 is determined using 13C NMR under magicangle spinning and is found to be almost 1:2. Static solid-state 13C NMR spectra of 13CO-intercalated C60 have been measured in the range between room temperature and 4 K. In the high-temperature range, i.e., between room temperature and 100 K, the CO molecules in the “octahedral” sites of the C60 lattice reorient rapidly on the NMR time scale. At 4 K the reorientation rate of CO is so low that, on the NMR time scale, the molecule appears localized in one of the minima of the potential. Between 4 and 30 K, the transition from the static to the dynamic regime can be inferred from NMR line shape changes. The temperature dependence of the line shape is modeled in terms of thermally activated jump-like reorientations of the CO molecules in the C60 lattice. No evidence for a quantum mechanical coherent tunneling motion of the CO molecules in the octahedral sites of the C60 lattice has been found.

Investigation of molecular motion of Cl-adamantane in the nanoprous zeolite by 13C NMR dipolar dephasing and variable contact time measurements
Dipolar-dephasing method provides some information about the strength of dipolar coupling in solids. Dipolar dephasing technique measures the time for a polarized carbon nucleus to lose its magnetization once the proton locking field is terminated. The dynamics of guest molecules adsorbed within the cavities and channels of nonporouszeolite strongly depend on the structure and chemical composit...

متن کاملInduced infrared absorption of molecular hydrogen in solid C
We report on the observation of induced infrared absorption in a molecular species trapped within a C60 lattice. Infrared spectra for interstitial H2 show distinct rotational and translational side-bands superimposed on the H2’s highly redshifted (54 cm ) fundamental vibrational mode. Data indicate that the hydrogen is rotating almost completely freely while at the same time undergoing localize...
متن کاملSupramolecular Amino Acid Based Hydrogels: Probing the Contribution of Additive Molecules using NMR Spectroscopy
Supramolecular hydrogels are composed of self-assembled solid networks that restrict the flow of water. l-Phenylalanine is the smallest molecule reported to date to form gel networks in water, and it is of particular interest due to its crystalline gel state. Single and multi-component hydrogels of l-phenylalanine are used herein as model materials to develop an NMR-based analytical approach to...

Nanoconfined synthesized crystalline fullerene mesoporous carbon (C60-FMC) with bimodal pore architectures of 4.95 nm and 10-15 nm pore sizes characterized by XRD, TEM, nitrogen adsorption/ desorption isotherm and solid-state NMR, and the material was used for protein immobilization. The solid-state 13C NMR spectrum of C60-FMC along with XRD, BET and TEM confirms the formation of fullerene meso...
